PM Modi to begin five-state visit with Mizoram, Manipur today; set to launch projects worth Rs 71,850 cr

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin a high-stakes five-state tour on Saturday, starting with Mizoram before heading to the ethnic conflict-hit state of Manipur, a visit seen as both a development outreach and a political message amid ongoing tensions in the region.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin a high-stakes five-state tour on Saturday, starting with Mizoram before heading to the ethnic conflict-hit state of Manipur, a visit seen as both a development outreach and a political message amid ongoing tensions in the region.

As part of the tour, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for projects worth over Rs 71,850 crore across Mizoram, Manipur, Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar from September 13 to 15.

The Prime Minister’s first stop will be Aizawl, Mizoram, where he will land at Lengpui Airport and address a public gathering at Lammual. At around 10 am, he will inaugurate the 51.38 km Bairabi–Sairang broad-gauge railway line, the first-ever rail connection to Aizawl, making it the fourth northeastern capital to be connected by rail after Guwahati, Agartala, and Itanagar.

He will also flag off three new train services connecting Aizawl to Delhi (Rajdhani Express), Kolkata, and Guwahati, significantly boosting connectivity and commerce potential for the region..

In addition, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate multiple development projects worth over Rs 9,000 crore in the state, including educational institutions and sports infrastructure such as:Residential school at Kawrthah,Eklavya Model Residential School at Tlangnuam,Khelo India Multipurpose Indoor Hall.

From Aizawl, PM Modi will fly to Manipur for his first visit to the state since ethnic violence erupted in May 2023. His itinerary includes visits to Imphal and Churachandpur, where local communities view his presence as a “glimmer of hope” even as calls for separate administration continue.

The Prime Minister is expected to address public meetings at Kangla Fort in Imphal and Peace Ground in Churachandpur, with around 10,000 people expected to attend, including all 59 MLAs across party lines. Security arrangements are unprecedented, with bans on drones and air guns in sensitive zones.

Following this, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth over Rs 7,300 crore in Churachandpur at around 12:30 pm. He will also address the gathering on the occasion. Later, he will inaugurate various projects worth over Rs 1,200 crore in Imphal at around 2:30 p.m. and will address a public function.

The Prime Minister will then travel to Assam, where he will participate in the centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika in Guwahati at around 5:00 pm. He will also address the gathering on this occasion.

On 14th September, PM Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of major infrastructure and industrial development projects worth over Rs18,530 crore in Assam. He is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of various projects in Darrang at around 11:00 am., where he will also address a public function. Later, at around 1:45 p.m., he will inaugurate the Assam Bio-Ethanol Private Limited plant at the Numaligarh Refinery in Golaghat. He will also lay the foundation stone of a Polypropylene Plant at the same location.

On 15th September, the Prime Minister will visit West Bengal, where he will inaugurate the 16th Combined Commanders’ Conference–2025 in Kolkata at around 9:30 am.

Following his visit to West Bengal, the Prime Minister will travel to Bihar, where he will inaugurate the new terminal building of Purnea airport at around 2:45 pm. In addition, he will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate multiple development projects worth around Rs 36,000 crore in Purnea, and address a public gathering on the occasion. He will also launch the National Makhana Board in Bihar.
