Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday congratulated Amul and IFFCO, India’s leading cooperatives, for securing the 1st and 2nd ranks globally in the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) World Cooperative Monitor 2025. “Congratulations to Amul and IFFCO. India’s cooperative sector is vibrant and is also transforming several lives. Our government is taking numerous steps to further encourage this sector in the times to come,” PM Modi wrote in a post on his X handle.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also praised the achievement, saying, “A proud moment for Bharat! Heartiest congratulations to Amul and IFFCO for occupying the first two ranks among the top ten cooperatives in the world.” He highlighted the tireless dedication of millions of women associated with Amul and farmers contributing to IFFCO, showcasing India’s cooperative sector as a global model of empowerment and self-reliance.

Amul, managed by the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, recorded an annual turnover of USD 7.3 billion (about Rs 60,000 crore) in 2023–24, procuring around 35 million litres of milk daily from 18,600 village milk cooperatives. IFFCO, one of the world’s largest cooperative fertiliser producers, serves over 50 million Indian farmers through 35,000 member cooperatives.
