Police demolish houses of two terrorists; detain around 2,500 OGWs across Kashmir

A day after a policeman was shot dead by terrorists in Anantnag, security forces demolished the houses of two active Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists and launched a massive crackdown across Kashmir, detaining hundreds of suspected overground workers (OGWs), even as Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti questioned the legality and effectiveness of the measures.

Speaking at the gathering, the President said that the contribution of India’s tribal communities forms “a glorious chapter in the history of a civilisation that is the mother of democracy.” She recalled that India’s traditions of collective decision-making predate modern political structures, citing the “Muria Darbar” of Bastar as a powerful example of a people’s parliament that has flourished for generations.
