In a tragic incident, one person died and 46 others were injured on Saturday afternoon when a bus carrying pilgrims from Mysuru in Karnataka to Sabarimala plunged into a gorge on the Paramba–Kattankavala road near Chittharikal in Kerala’s Kasaragod district.

The deceased has been identified as Harish (36), a resident of Chunchanakatte, Mysuru. The mishap occurred around 2.50 p.m. when the bus lost control at a curve near Kattankavala and fell about 30 feet down the slope. Local residents and the police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to hospitals in Cherupuzha, Payyanur, and the Pariyaram Medical College Hospital.

There were a total of 56 passengers on the bus, including six children. Among the injured, 22 have been admitted to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital, four to Cherupuzha Cooperative Hospital, and 20 to Cherupuzha St. Sebastian Hospital. One person is reported to be in critical condition.
