‘No Tejas has crashed’: HAL debunks media reports, says minor technical snag as fighter maintains one of the world’s best safety records

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on Monday debunked the media reports on the LCA Tejas crash, claiming the aircraft has not crashed and that there was only a minor technical incident on the ground.

In a statement, HAL said that Tejas maintains one of the world’s best safety records among contemporary fighter aircraft.

“HAL acknowledges the recent media reports on the LCA Tejas incident and wishes to provide factual clarification. There has been no reported crash of the LCA Tejas. The event in question was a minor technical incident on the ground. LCA Tejas maintains one of the world’s best safety records among contemporary fighter aircraft,” the statement read.

HAL, the developer of Tejas, further stated that the technical issue is being analysed.

“As a standard operating procedure, the issue is being analysed in depth and HAL is working closely with the Indian Air Force (IAF) for a speedy resolution,” it added.

The clarification came after several media reports claimed that a Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) had crashed earlier this month. Citing sources, the reports claimed that the incident took place in an operational area at a key air base while landing after a routine training sortie. The pilot, however, ejected safely but the aircraft suffered damage, said the reports.

Following the incident, the Indian Air Force reportedly grounded its entire fleet of Tejas LCA and launched an investigation into the incident.

Tejas crash at Dubai Air Show

Earlier in November last year, a Tejas fighter jet crashed while performing an aerial manoeuvre at the Dubai Air Show 2025, killing its pilot.

“An IAF Tejas aircraft met with an accident during an aerial display at the Dubai Air Show today. The pilot sustained fatal injuries in the accident. IAF deeply regrets the loss of life and stands firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief,” the IAF had said in a statement.

A court of inquiry was ordered to determine the sequence of events and cause of the accident.
