Modi thanks Ansari for his ‘distinguished years in public service’

Bidding farewell to Vice-President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday thanked him for his “distinguished years in public service”.

“Your career as a diplomat may have been useful in handling this House,” PM Modi said in the Rajya Sabha, whose chairman is Hamid Ansari.

“Thank you for your distinguished years in public service,” he added.

Ansari, 80, a former career diplomat has had two terms as Vice-President and will be demitting office on Thursday. BJP leader and former Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu will become the 13th Vice-President of India.
