Separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was on Friday detained by the police when he defied his house arrest and proceeded towards Anantnag where the separatists had asked the people to gather in large numbers to protest against killing of terrorists in South Kashmir.

Curfew-like restrictions were imposed downtown Srinagar and Anantnag as a precautionary measure.

Syed AlishahGeelani is already under house arrest and Yasin Malik is lodged in the Central Jail.

The Mirwaiz accused the government of not letting the separatists hold “peaceful” protest.

He had announced on his Twitter account that he would defy his house arrest and march to Anantnag “to show solidarity with the people of south Kashmir”.

The Army has launched the “Operation All Out” to eliminate terrorists in South Kashmir. Train services and internet services were suspended there as a precautionary measure.
