Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the BJP over the mob attack on TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, accusing the ruling party in the state of presiding over a collapse of law and order in West Bengal and allowing state institutions to be used against political opponents.
In a post on X, Mehbooba said that the law and order situation in West Bengal has been deteriorating ever since BJP won the Assembly elections.

Questioning whether it was the change people of West Bengal voted for, she wrote: “The sad deteriorating law & order ever since BJP won the West Bengal elections is appalling to say the least. Where neutral institutions like the police are now being weaponised to turn a blind eye as murderous assaults are orchestrated against political opponents like Abhishek Banerjee. Is this the change people of West Bengal voted for? Certainly not.”

Abhishek Banerjee, who is MP from Diamond Harbour, is nephew of TMC chief Mamta Banerjee. He was reportedly attacked by a violent mob when he visited his constituency to meet the family of a party worker who was allegedly killed in a recent post-poll violence.
