The Congress Party is leading in Meghalaya with a slight margin, while the Bharatiya Janata Party has achieved a mountainous lead in Tripura.

In view of the current trends, BJP is likely to forge an alliance with other political parties to form the government in Meghalaya.

Nalin Kohli, Meghalaya BJP in-charge, has said that there is a possibility of an anti-Congress alliance in Meghalaya because the parties that are a part of the National Democratic Alliance — National People`s Party (NPP), United Democratic Party (UDP) and BJP —  have an upper hand over the Congress.

Talking to ANI, he said, “In Meghalaya, the vote is clearly against the Congress because if you see it from the larger perspective, the anti-Congress vote goes to the NPP, the UDP, BJP, and all of us are part of NDA. Now it is up to the national leaders to decide, but there can be a possibility of a post-poll alliance.”

Meghalaya, of the total 60 seats, the Congress was ahead on 21 seats, while the BJP took lead on 2 seats. The NPP, which is an ally of the NDA government at the Centre, was leading on 19 seats.

In all probability, if the current trends are followed, Meghalaya is likely to see a hung assembly with independent candidates leading on as many as 17 seats.
