MCD polls: BJP alleges AAP demanding Rs 80 lakh for ticket

BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra, on Monday, alleged that Aam Adami Party (AAP) was demanding Rs 80 lakh for a ticket to contest the upcoming MCD polls, based on a sting operation.

Dismissing the BJP’s new ‘sting’ claim, senior AAP leader and MLA from Timarpur Dilip Pandey said, “The BJP is releasing fake stings everyday to malign Aam Aadmi Party in fear of its MCD election defeat.”

Earlier in the day, at a press conference, Patra also showed the sting video, and charged that AAP leaders were demanding money in exchange for MCD tickets.

He said, “Kejriwal ji had said that if someone does money transactions with you, then make a video. Today AAP party’s ticket applicant Bindu Shriram from ward No. 54 Rohini D revealed Arvind Kejriwal and his corruption by mentioning him.”

AAP worker Bindu, who joined AAP, and was expecting a ticket to contest the MCD polls this time, was seen with Patra during the BJP press conference.

“Arvind Kejriwal’s party is selling MCD tickets for Rs 80 lakh. Want the full payment in one go. Not in installments. Puneet Goyal, the conduit, in conversation with aspirant Bindu Shriram. AAP ticket aspirant Bindu Shriram doesn’t trust Puneet Goyal and wanted confirmation from Pathania, on whose behest he collects money. Pathania claimed a committee comprising Gopal Rai, Durgesh, Saurabh and Atishi, all close to Kejriwal, took the final call,” informed Sambit while showing the video.

“Mahathug Kejriwal and his entire party are mired in corruption,” he added.

Reacting to the issue, the AAP said, “Fake ‘sting’ shows BJP losing MCD. Punit Goyal has no business with AAP.”

Dismissing the BJP’s new ‘sting’ claim, senior AAP leader and MLA from Timarpur Dilip Pandey said, “It is evident that BJP has conceded its defeat in MCD elections. Their frustration is visible from the fact that they are releasing fake stings every now and then which they shoot anywhere.”

“There is no scope of getting tickets for money in AAP; only those workers who have a strong presence on ground get tickets,” he said.

“If BJP would have done some work in 15 years, they would not have needed to release such fake stings,” the AAP leader said.

MCD election is scheduled to be held on December 4 to elect 250 councillors of Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The result will be announced on December 7.

This year, the Central government unified the three corporations – East Delhi Municipal Corporation, South Delhi Municipal Corporation and North Delhi Municipal Corporation – into one MCD. After a Home Ministry notification, the total number of MCD wards in Delhi has been reduced to 250 from earlier 272. As many as 42 wards are in the reserved category.

The BJP has governed the civic bodies since 2007.

In the last civic body polls in 2017, the BJP won 181 of the 270 wards. The AAP had won 48 wards, while the Congress managed to win 27. Polling was not held for two seats due to the death of candidates.
