Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Tuesday strongly reacted to the ongoing dispute in Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh, where tensions have erupted over claims surrounding a 200-year-old mausoleum being identified and used as a temple by certain groups.

In a public statement, Mayawati urged the state government to take the matter seriously and ensure that no community is allowed to take steps that could spark communal unrest or disrupt social harmony. She emphasised that maintaining peace, mutual brotherhood, and law and order should be the government’s top priority.

“The UP government must not allow any group to take provocative actions that may lead to communal tension or disrupt the peaceful fabric of the region,” she said, demanding strict legal action if necessary to prevent escalation.

The controversy erupted after right-wing activists allegedly entered the mausoleum on August 11 and attempted to perform Hindu rituals while hoisting a saffron flag, claiming it to be an ancient temple. The administration swiftly intervened, increasing police deployment and registering FIRs against over 150 individuals involved in the act.
