BSP supremo Mayawati on Thursday expressed deep concern over the widespread destruction caused by heavy rainfall, floods, and landslides across several states in India, including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam.
In a post on X, she highlighted the grave situation, particularly in rural areas where flooding has led to significant loss of life, livestock, and property. She also pointed out the severe waterlogging in urban centers like Gurugram and Noida, which has severely disrupted daily life and caused immense hardship to millions of families.

Calling it a time for humanitarian response, Mayawati lauded the voluntary efforts of individuals and groups stepping up to help affected families. She termed this public initiative as “a heartening sign of compassion and unity.”
However, she also emphasized the pressing need for both the central and state governments to fulfill their responsibilities with full commitment. “Governments must immediately come forward to provide every possible form of assistance to all affected families and display a humanistic approach in these challenging times,” she said.
The BSP chief further stressed the importance of long-term planning, urging authorities to invest consistently in basic public infrastructure to prevent such recurring disasters. “It is crucial that the everyday lives and livelihoods of crores of farmers, laborers, poor and working-class citizens are not severely impacted every year due to government negligence,” she added.
Mayawati’s remarks come as many regions across North and Northeast India continue to grapple with floodwaters, damaged roads, landslides, and disrupted public services, prompting widespread calls for more effective disaster preparedness and response mechanisms.
