Why a 200-year-old mosque in Varanasi was demolished in the middle of the night
Authorities carried out a heavily guarded overnight operation in Varanasi as land was cleared for an ambitious transport hub project linked to Kashi railway station.

Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam will arrive in Kashi on September 11 for a high-level bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This marks the first time that bilateral talks between the two nations will be held in Varanasi.
According to Dr. Dayashankar Mishra ‘Dayalu’, Uttar Pradesh Minister of State for AYUSH and Food Security (Independent Charge), Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Kashi is also planned for the same day.

Upon arrival, Prime Minister Ramgoolam will travel by road from Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport to Hotel Taj, while Prime Minister Modi will reach the same venue via road.

The Prime Minister of Mauritius will be welcomed at the airport by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and some ministers of the state government.
The bilateral talks are expected to cover key areas including tourism, trade, and technology cooperation. After the discussions, a formal lunch is scheduled for both leaders.
To mark the occasion, cultural programs will be organized along the route from the airport to the hotel. The people of Kashi will give a grand traditional welcome to the Mauritius PM, with conch shells, bells, ghadiyals, and damroos creating a festive atmosphere.
Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and several state ministers will welcome Prime Minister Ramgoolam at the airport.
In the evening, Prime Minister Ramgoolam will visit the Kaal Bhairav Temple and the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple for darshan and to perform puja.There is a possibility that he may also participate in Ganga Aarti. However, a minute-to-minute itinerary for both Prime Ministers is yet to be finalized.
Varanasi Divisional Commissioner S. Rajlingam said on Saturday that preparations have begun for the high-profile visit. He has issued necessary instructions to departments including Public Works, Water Works, Municipal Corporation, and the Electricity Department.
Special directions have been issued to remove overhead dish antenna and network wires along the designated route. Additionally, Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari has instructed officials to clear encroachments near the Kashi Vishwanath and Kaal Bhairav temples,ensure better cleanliness and garbage collection,catch stray animals, and decorate the roads with flower pots, lights, and ornamental displays, following the model of recent G20 events.
