“The new terminal’s total capacity allows it to maintain up to 250 rakes per month,” Sudarshan added.

He also informed that with the construction of the Coach Care Complex, maintenance work for the rakes of all types of trains—such as Vande Bharat, DEMU, LHB rakes, and others—can be carried out at a single location.

Sudarshan mentioned that extensive works have been carried out at Khatipura railway station as part of the expansion of coaching maintenance facilities.

The development of new rail lines, washing pits, stabling lines, and modern technical resources prepares this complex to meet future requirements.

The mega coaching terminal comprises two washing lines, two inspection bay lines, a covered sick shed with two lines, three spur lines, four stabling lines, and one wheel lathe line.

“All these facilities will make train maintenance operations more organised, effective, and timely. Leveraging state-of-the-art technology, a ‘Bogie Drop Pit’ machine has been installed for the first time on the North Western Railway; this will save time on rake maintenance and streamline the work process,” Sudarshan stated.

Additionally, the installation of retractable OHE will accelerate maintenance activities. A four-tier examination system has been established at the Mega Coaching Terminal. In addition, advanced technology-equipped machinery—such as a Synchronized Coach Lifting System (4-car), modernised cranes, wheel lathes, an automatic coach washing plant, and a body-undercarriage scanning system—has been provided; this will enhance maintenance quality and further improve safety.

“With the integration of all these state-of-the-art technologies and facilities, the Khatipura Mega Coaching Terminal will establish a new identity in the field of railway maintenance. Superior quality, enhanced safety, and the capacity to maintain a larger number of rakes in less time will pave the way for the operation of more trains in this region in the future,” Sudarshan added.
