Police said an army convoy carrying reinforcements to Futlipora village, where the gun battle was on, was attacked with stones by a mob in Pakherpora Chowk.

The encounter began early Thursday morning as the army received a tip-off that two to three militants were present in Futlipora village, Badgam.

As the forces launched a cordon-and-search operation, the hiding militants opened fire triggering the encounter, which is still on, police said.

Meanwhile, mobile internet services have been snapped in Budgam as a precautionary measure.
