Amid controversy over alleged sloganeering against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), the Chief Security Officer of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has written to the Vasant Kunj Police Station SHO, requesting registration of an FIR for raising objectionable and provocative slogans outside Sabarmati Hostel in JNU, under the relevant sections of BNS.
The CSO’s request for FIR comes after several student organisations reportedly raised slogans against PM Modi and Amit Shah at the university campus.

The sloganeering against PM Modi and Union HM Amit Shah in JNU campus was reported hours after the Supreme Court rejected the bail plea of Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam in the larger conspiracy case of the Delhi riots.

About last night
At around 10PM yesterday, a programme was organised outside Sabarmati Hostel JNU, by students associated with the JNUSU, to observe the sixth anniversary of the violence that occurred in JNU on 05 January in 2020, under the title “A Night of Resistance with Guerrilla Dhaba.
Around 30-35 students, including Aditi Mishra, Gopika Babu, Sunil Yadav, Danish Ali, Saad Azmi, Mehboob Ilahi, Kanishk, Pakeeza Khan and Shubham, were present at the spot.
However, it is being reported that certain students began raising objectionable, provocative, and inflammatory slogans during the programme.
Sloganeering may disturb public order, says CSO
The Chief Security Officer at JNU called such sloganeering ‘wholly inconsistent with democratic dissent.’ He referred to it as a violation of the JNU Code of Conduct.
In the letter, CSO mentioned, “The raising of such slogans has the potential to seriously disturb public order, campus harmony, and the safety and security environment of the University. The slogans raised were clearly audible, deliberate, and repeated, thereby indicating intentional and conscious misconduct rather than any spontaneous or inadvertent expression.”
He asserted that such an act shows a wilful disregard for institutional discipline, established norms of civil discourse, and the peaceful academic character of the University campus.
According to the CSO, officials from the Security Department were present at the site at the time of sloganeering and closely monitored the situation.
The CSO has also filed a report to the JNU Chief Proctor regarding the sloganeering incident. The report says it is a direct contempt of the Supreme Court of India.

Meanwhile, Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa strongly condemned the sloganeering and assured that anyone who creates unrest will go to jail. He said, “This is the BJP rule; those who create unrest are absolutely not tolerated here. The place for rioters is in jail…”
