The security agencies have discontinued search for five “terrorists”, who are suspected to have infiltrated from Pakistan in the Hiranagar sector ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir, as no substantial lead had come out even after taking several aspects into account.

The Border Security Force (BSF) and other security agencies had launched a massive search last week when reports of some suspicious movement and infiltration of terrorists came in.

It is learnt that the security agencies have scanned the area to find any signs for infiltration but have found no tunnels or broken wire fence on the border.

A BSF officer said, though the initial impression we got was that some infiltrators might have crossed so we went by the past cases.

However on verification, ground search and analysis upto now, we feel that those five people may be locals or atmost internal smugglers. Still nothing is ruled out. We are working on this along with other agencies too but nothing substantial has come out so far, he added.

Besides search on the ground, the Army had conducted aerial surveillance of the area and special check points were set up on the Pathankot—Jammu highway as a precautionary measure.

Army, CRPF and police installations along the highway in Kathua, Samba and Jammu districts were put on alert.

Sources in the BSF (Border Security Force) say the terrorists used a tunnel to cross over at the Samba sector, in a major infiltration bid on Monday.
