Three policemen, who were abducted by militants late on Thursday from Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, have been killed.

The militants had also abducted a policeman’s brother who is learnt to have been set free.

According to local media reports, the bodies were recovered from Kapran village in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Friday morning.

The slain policemen were identified as constable Nissar Ahmed and two special police officers, Firdous Ahmed and Kulwant Singh.

They were kidnapped from their homes at Batagund and Kapran villages, a police official said.

He said security forces launched intensive search operations to rescue the abducted men but terrorists shot them dead. The bodies were recovered from an orchard at Wangam.

“We have lost three of our brave colleagues in a barbaric terror strike. Our tribute to the three martyred jawans… ,” a police spokesperson said.

“We condemn this inhuman act and assure that all the culprits shall be dealt under law,” he added.

No group has claimed responsibility yet.

The militants have been threatening special police officers (SPOs) to give up their jobs or face consequences. According to media reports, the Hizbul Mujahideen had given a “final warning” to SPOs to quit their jobs by September 19.

The news of these abductions and killings comes nearly three weeks after terrorists had abducted and released 11 relatives of policemen in south Kashmir.

Last month, the 11 abducted people had been released unharmed.

The August 30 abductions had taken place days after the National Investigation Agency arrested a son of top terrorist Syed Salahuddin, leader of the Hizbul Mujahideen group, on charges of receiving secret funds.
