Incidents of stone pelting by miscreants were reported soon after the security forces on Saturday shot dead two terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen in the Dardgund area of Pulwama in South Kashmir.

The killed terrorists identified as Liaquat Munir Wani and Wajid-ul-Islam belonged to Pulwama. A mob indulged in pelting stones at the security forces who retaliated by bursting teargas shells.

The security forces urged the people not to go to the encounter spot until it was sanitised and unexploded ammunition removed.

Police said that an INSAS rifle recovered from the encounter spot was snatched some time ago by terrorists from a policeman in the Murran village of Pulwama. An AK-47 rifle was also recovered. The killed terrorists were involved in a series of attacks on security forces and atrocities on civilians. Cases against them stand registered against them in various police stations, police said.

A spontaneous shutdown was observed in Pulwama to protest against killing of the two terrorists.

Encounter between the security forces and terrorists began early in the morning when a cordon and search operation (CASO) ws launched in Tikken area based on “credible” inputs about the presence of militants in the area, said a police official.

As the search operation was going on, the hiding terrorists fired on the search party. “The fire was retaliated, leading to an encounter,” police said.

A Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorist was killed yesterday evening in an encounter in the Tral area of South Kashmir yesterday evening. A policeman was also injured in the encounter.
