Himachal CM Virbhadra’s son seeks Congress ticket from dad’s seat

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh’s son, Vikramditya Singh, on Tuesday applied for Congress ticket from Shimla (Rural) Assembly segment, which is presently held by his father.

Vikramaditya, 27, is state Youth Congress president and is the in poll fray for the first time.

Few months ago, Virbhadra Singh had announced his candidature for Shimla (Rural) in the presence of his supporters in a formal function.

Two more candidates, Dharam Singh and Pradeep Verma have applied for party ticket for the same constituency.

10 October was the last date of submitting application for the Congress ticket with Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC).

According to PCC President, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Vidya Stokes and GS Bali have so far not applied for ticket.

Around 400 candidates have so far submitted applications for Congress ticket in 68 Assembly segments.

“We will get to know the exact figure on ticket applicants tomorrow. The state will sort out and shortlist the names. The final decision on the tickets rests with the party high command,” Sukhu said.

Vikramaditya has got a boost with Virbhadra having been given the command to lead the party in polls, apart from being the CM’s face.

All eyes on Virbhadra

According to sources, his choice would be amongst Arki in Solan, Theog or Chopal in Shimla, as Virbhadra himself has been dropping hints. “I can contest from any constituency, other than Shimla city,” Virbhadra said on Monday in the presence of State Congress President, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and AICC secretary and party co-incharge, Ranjit Ranjan.

One Party One Ticket norm of Congress, which it implemented in Punjab, may be selectively relaxed in Himachal Pradesh, said sources. Chetan Parmar, son of former Congress MLA Kush Parmar, has applied for ticket in place of his father.
