Reacting to the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday wished him good health, noting that Mr Dhankhar got many opportunities to serve the country in various capacities and wished him good health.
In a social media post on X, Modi wrote: “Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar Ji has got many opportunities to serve our country in various capacities, including as the Vice President of India. Wishing him good health.”
The reaction from the prime minister came shortly after reports claimed that Dhankhar’s resignation was accepted by President Droupadi Murmu.
Dhankhar, 74, tendered his resignation from the post of Vice President, citing health reasons.
In a letter addressed to the President, Dhankhar wrote, “To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution.”
He thanked President Murmu “for her unwavering support and the wonderful, soothing working relationship” they shared during his tenure.
Dhankhar also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and the Council of Ministers. “The Prime Minister’s cooperation and support have been invaluable, and I have learned much during my time in office,” he said.
