Former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda’s wife and Chaibasa MP Geeta Koda on Monday quit the Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of Lok Sabha election 2024.

The Chaibasa MP has sent her resignation to party high command. She was reportedly not happy with the Congress party’s alliances in Jharkhand.

“Impressed by the public welfare works of Honorable Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji and the policies of Bharatiya Janata Party, the hard-working MP of Chaibasa, Smt. Geeta Koda ji joined the BJP today,” Marandi said in a post on ‘X’.

Interestingly, Koda had attended a Congress function at Chaibasa Congress office less than 48 hours before switching his loyalties to the BJP. She is yet to make public the reasons behind her decision to quit the grand old party.

Geeta Koda’s husband Madhu Koda was the chief minister of Jharkhand between 2006 and 2008. He was a BJP MLA from Bihar’s Jaganathpur assembly constituency before the creation of Jharkhand.

Koda served as a minister in Babulal Marandi-led first Jharkhand government. After Arjun Munda’s revolt, Marandi govt collapsed and Koda resigned as minister. However, he again became the minister in Arjun Munda government.

In 2005 Jharkhand Assembly elections, Koda was denied ticket by the BJP but contested the polls as an independent candidate form his stronghold Jaganathpur and won.

In 2006, he was made the chief minister of the UPA-led Jharkhand government. He also served as UPA incharge of Jharkhand.
