After attacking Modi government over demonetisation during the fourth phase of his Karnataka campaign, Rahul Gandhi continued his criticism of the Prime Minister’s policies.

Speaking at Chamarajanagar in the poll-bound state, Gandhi told the gathering of what the students at Maharani’s Arts College in Mysuru said to him about demonetisation.

“I interacted with young students this morning. The first question posed to me was about the failed promise of two crore jobs by PM Modi,” the Congress president said.

Speaking in Hindi, the 47-year-old said that Modi government made tall promises but fulfilled none.

“Somewhere he promises two crore jobs and somewhere else he promises to deposit Rs 15 lakh in bank accounts; not even 10 rupees has been deposited,” he claimed.

“Even 18-20 year olds are aware of the ills of demonetisation but our PM is still ignorant of these issues,” he added.

Gandhi, who is touring Karnataka as part of the Jana Aashirwada Yatra, also hailed the contribution of 12th century Lingayat philosopher and poet Basavanna, also known as Basaveshwara.

“Basavanna gave Karnataka the idea of democracy and urged all people to work together. This is the core ideal of our party under (Karnataka CM) Siddaramaiah,” he said.

The Congress government under Siddaramaiah had on Monday approved the recommendation of a seven-member committee to grant separate religion status to Lingayat community.

The move was criticised by the BJP. BS Yeddyurappa, the party’s CM candidate in the state and himself a strongman from the community, called the move an “election gimmick”.
