The Election Commission has mandated that no political party, candidate, organization, or individual shall publish any advertisement in print media on the poll day, and the day preceding it unless the content is pre-certified by the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) at the state or district level.
The directive comes in the wake of the upcoming Bihar Assembly polls. For the polls, these restricted days have been designated as November 5 and 6 for Phase-I, and November 10 and 11 for Phase-II of polling. The poll panel has fixed polling dates for the general election on November 6 and November 11.

Applicants seeking pre-certification for political advertisements must submit their requests to the MCMC at least two days before the advertisement’s intended publication date.
To facilitate this process, the MCMC at both state and district levels have been activated and tasked with expeditiously examining and certifying advertisements to ensure compliance with election regulations.
This directive forms part of the Election Commission’s broader effort to maintain transparency and fairness during the election period, preventing undue influence on voters through unchecked political advertising in the days immediately surrounding polling.
The announcement also applies to the bye-elections for eight assembly constituencies across seven states.
