The ruling Congress party, on Thursday, retained its Sardarshahar assembly seat in the bypolls held on November 5 as its candidate Anil Kumar Sharma defeated his rival of BJP Ashok Kumar Pincha by a margin of 26,852 votes.
Sardarshahar constituency of the Churu district in Rajasthan had fallen vacant after the death of Bhanwar Lal Sharma, 77 year old veteran Congress leader on October 9, 2022. Late sharma represented this constituency seven times. Anil is elder son of late Bhanwarlal Sharma.
However, of all the assembly elections in Sardarshahar, the Congress has won nine times, while BJP won two times in 1980 and 2008. Three times Janta Dal, and one time LokDal candidates won the assembly polls since the first election in 1951.
Out of nine assembly polls in last four years, Congress has won 7 seats including today’s one.
