Amid campaigning for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections, the Delhi Congress launched ‘Vision Document’ promising to improve the standard of MCD schools.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Chaudhary Anil Kumar, launching the ‘Vision Document’, said the party would provide quality education to the children of the poor by setting up “Day Boarding Schools”, if voted to power in the upcoming MCD polls.

This is the third Vision Document of the Delhi Congress after it announced house tax and reverse osmosis (RO) water for the poor as part of its previous vision documents.

Chaudhary claimed that the Congress had won over the minds of the people and would conquer Delhi. “Dil Jeeta Hai, Dilli Jeetenge”, he emphasised the party slogan for the upcoming elections, to save it from the “most corrupt department” tag, which the BJP had turned it into.

He said the Congress government had introduced revolutionary changes to education in government schools, and the party would carry forward that model to the MCD schools as well.

Addressing a press conference at the launch of the Vision Document for education, the DPCC president alleged that BJP and AAP have ruined education in the government schools, severely impacting the education of children from the families of the poor.

According to him, when Congress came to power in Delhi in 1998, the percentage of successful students in the government schools in the 10th board examination was at 35 per cent. But, the government of Sheila Dikshit, took it as a challenge, and by 2013, the percentage rose to 99.46 per cent.

The lop-sided priority given by both BJP and AAP governments to the school education, resulted in shutting down of 45 MCD schools in the past 15 years, while the Kejriwal Government closed 16 schools in the last 8 years, exposing the so-called ‘Delhi Model of Education,’ he said.

The Congress leader added that the purpose of the ‘Day Boarding’ schools was to ensure that children from poor families not only get quality education, but also to ensure their safety and security, healthy mid-day meals, extra-curricular activities, including sports to tap their full potential, prevent child labour, to bridge the gap between the poor and rich, and digital divide.
