The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections have thrown the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) out of power after its 15 year stint in the corporation. Out of a total of 250 seats, the ruling party at the Centre had to be content with just 104 seats.

A total of 10 BJP candidates have forfeited their deposits mostly from the Muslim dominated areas.

Altogether 1,349 candidates were in the fray for 250 seats. Of these, 784 have lost their deposits.

The Congress, however, had shown a dismal performance with nine winners out of 247 in the fray. Out of these, 188 candidates forfeited their deposits.

Three Aam Aadmi Party candidates could not save their deposits even after their party put up a landslide victory in the polls. Moreover, those who lost their deposits from other parties, include 22 from the Janata Dal-U (JDU) along with 25 of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

AAP’s 42.05 per cent vote share

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) got a maximum of 42.05 per cent votes while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) got 39.09 per cent and the Congress only 11.68 per cent of vote share.

Altogether, 73,35,825 voters exercised their franchise on December 4. Out of this, AAP got 30,84,957 votes, BJP got 28,67,472 and Congress got 8,56,593 votes.
