Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Congress for neglecting the Northeast during its rule, and said that the BJP-led NDA government considers the region as “Ashtalakshmi”. PM Modi was addressing the Booth Vijay Sankalp Sabha in Guwahati, Assam.
PM Modi stressed that the Northeast is the BJP’s priority and the party is devoted to its development. He said, “For us, the Northeast is our Ashtalakshmi. We have given strong focus to the Northeast to make it economically independent.”

He further slammed the Congress party for disrespecting Mother India. He alleged, “Congress even refuses to consider India as a nation. Those who do not show even the slightest respect towards Mother India can never work for the country’s welfare.”
PM Modi alleged that today’s Congress endorses the people who dream of tearing the country apart, the people who make slogans to separate the North East from India. He further warned people to beware of Congress, saying that the party has become a ‘Muslim League Maoist Congress’.

Highlighting the ongoing progress in the northeast under the BJP-led government, PM Modi said such highways are being built here today where not only vehicles run, but even aircraft can land. This is a moment of pride. This is the changing spirit of Assam.

He accused the Congress party of building only three bridges on the Brahmaputra in about seven decades of their rule. He said, “In such a situation, was the development of Assam possible?… In 2014, it was the result of your hard work that I got the opportunity to serve the country in the Indian government. After 2-3 years, the BJP workers made a double-engine government here. What was the result of this? In the past 10-11 years, the BJP-NDA government has completed 5 large bridges on the Brahmaputra river… Congress has only given problems to Assam, whereas BJP has given solutions to Assam.”
PM Modi today exuded pride in being a karyakarta of the BJP, calling it the greatest honour of his life. He said, “As a BJP worker, I bow my head and pay my respects to the strength of our karyakartas and the organisation in Assam. I also offer my countless salutations to Maa Adi Shakti and Maa Kamakhya.”
He also applauded all party workers for taking the party to great heights. He said, “Our faith lies in the organisation. That is why it is a privilege to honour such a large number of karyakartas. We are united by one mantra, and that mantra is: Bharat Mata Ki Jai.”
