Chhattisgarh: Molestation victim’s hair chopped off to ‘purify’ her

In a shocking incident, a 13-year-old girl’s hair were chopped off and her head half-shaved in a bid to “purify” her after being molested by a native of her village.

The victim, a resident of Kawardha village of Chhattisgarh, had to go through the traumatic ordeal on the orders of the village panchayat.

The panchayat further ensured that the minor girl was ostracised while the accused, Arjun Yadav roamed free.

According to reports, the accused was in an inebriated condition when he molested the minor girl and is affiliated to a political party.

However, taking suo motu cognizance, the police have detained Yadav and have registered a case.

Taking note of the incident, social activists have demanded that all panchayat members must be booked by the police and strict action should be taken against them.

Furthermore, the police should also ensure that the chargesheet in the case has no loopholes in order to make a strong case against the accused.
