The Chhattisgarh government on Tuesday deported 30 Bangladeshi nationals who had been residing unlawfully in various districts of the state.
The coordinated operation commenced at Raipur Airport, from where the deportees were flown to Guwahati. There, they were handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) for repatriation to Bangladesh via the international border.
This marks the first officially documented large-scale deportation of foreign nationals from Chhattisgarh.
The individuals deported were found living without valid documents in the districts of Raipur, Durg, Rajnandgaon, and Raigarh, following intelligence inputs and public complaints. Most had reportedly entered the country illegally and remained undetected for years.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma confirmed that a Special Task Force (STF) has been established to monitor illegal infiltration.
“Our government is committed to national security and maintaining law and order. We have launched a helpline to enable citizens to report suspicious movements or undocumented foreigners,” he stated.
While 30 individuals have been deported, not all identified Bangladeshi nationals were eligible for repatriation.
Several are currently facing criminal proceedings. In Raipur alone, six individuals including three siblings, a couple, and a minor girl remain in judicial custody due to ongoing investigations. Similar cases have been reported in Durg and Rajnandgaon.
Officials clarified that any deportation involving individuals with criminal records will proceed only after clearance from the respective courts.
The entire operation was conducted with the approval of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and in accordance with due legal process.
