A 13-year-old boy from Bilaspur district in Chhattisgarh has been taken into custody for the alleged sexual assault of his six-year-old relative, a case that has left the local community reeling and authorities scrambling to address its underlying causes.

The incident occurred in Bardwar village under the Kota police jurisdiction. Preliminary reports indicate that the young girl was playing near her home when the accused, visiting from Bilaspur, reportedly lured her into a secluded area.

The case has gone beyond immediate legal proceedings, sparking a heated debate on the influences affecting young minds. Renowned Raipur-based psychiatrist Dr. Surbhi Dubey pointed to a toxic combination of digital exposure and diminished supervision.

“To attribute such behaviour to a single cause is a fallacy. We are seeing a confluence of dangerous factors,” Dr. Dubey explained. She identified rampant, unmonitored access to internet pornography and adult-oriented web series as a primary catalyst, enabling impressionable children to mimic what they see.

Dr. Dubey further highlighted the decline of traditional support structures. “The protective oversight once provided by joint families has frayed. In nuclear families with working parents, children are often left with digital devices as babysitters, devoid of crucial moral guidance,” she asserted.

She called for immediate societal action, including implementing gender-neutral education and stricter parental controls over content consumption, arguing that waiting for legislative solutions is a luxury society can no longer afford.

The case has also prompted discussions about regular community watch programs and strengthening child protection initiatives in the district. Police have urged residents to remain vigilant while assuring swift action in all cases involving children’s safety.
