Hundreds of BJP workers and important leaders, including state party president Satish Poonia, on Saturday, held a massive demonstration-cum-rally here against the Congress government’s alleged misconduct and police highhandedness in crushing the agitation of Pulwama martyrs’ widow.

During the protest on the Sahakar Bhawan road, over hundred protesters including  Rajya Sabha MP Dr Kirorilal Meena, who was admitted to the SMS Hospital for injuries he received yesterday, courted arrest after a failed bid to cross barricades and near civil lines over bridge, a senior cop of the Jaipur Police Commissioner told the media.

A few of the miscreants pelted stones at the vehicles, including police vans, during the demonstration. In the melee, party president Poonia received a minor injury in his leg and was provided a separate vehicle during his court arrest, a party spokesman said. All of them were released near Vidhyadhar Nagar area in the city later in the day.

Before marching towards civil lines, the party leaders Poonia, R S Rathore, deputy leader in the House, Ghanshyam Tiwari (RS MP) and Om Prakash Mathur and a number of MLAs addressed the rally and shared the dais outside the party headquarters.

During the protest, factionalism in the BJP once again came to the fore as the supporters of MP Kirorilal raised anti party president slogans as ‘Satish Poonia hi-hi’. On the other hand, Poonia’s supporters raised slogans of ‘Poonia Zindabad’. The displeasure of Kirori supporters is about this time that the BJP organization did not support them strongly.

However, controlling the situation, Poonia told the gathering that there was an undeclared emergency-like situation in Rajasthan under the Congress rule, and the BJP strongly condemned the misbehavior by the police with the widows and MPs Kirodilal and Ranjita Koli (Bharatpur).
