BJP links KCR skipping all-party meet to daughter’s taint

While the CBI is scheduled to question TRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha in connection with Delhi liquor scam case on 11 December in Hyderabad, the BJP has slammed Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for skipping Wednesday’s all-party meet on India’s G-20, alleging that he was trying to avoid embarrassing questions over his daughter’s role in the liquor scam.

In a letter to the TRS MLC written by DIG, CBI Raghavendra Vatsa, Kavitha was informed that a “CBI team will visit your residence at 1100 hours on 11.12.2022 for your examination and recording of your statement in connection with investigation of aforesaid case”. She was asked to confirm her availability.

In reply to the first notice sent by the CBI, Kavitha had sought the copies of the complaint and FIR. She also had given alternate dates to the probe agency on which she would be available for examination. Although the agency had offered to meet her either at Hyderabad or Delhi she chose to be examined at her Banjara Hills residence in Hyderabad. She also wrote to the CBI putting it on record that according to the complaint lodged by ministry of home affairs or the FIR her name does not figure in the list of accused.

The BJP, which had earlier accused Kavitha of avoiding a grilling by CBI over the liquor scam, on Tuesday, criticised the chief minister for shunning the Prime Minister. The Telangana BJP lambasted the chief minister for avoiding the all party meet over G-20 presidency even though all other non BJP chief ministers including those from neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu were present.

Party spokesperson NV Subhash pointed out that even though the chief minister was accusing the Centre of not doing enough for Telangana in every meet, be it of the state Cabinet or his Parliamentarians he is steadfastly avoiding the Prime Minister.

“This time, there was an invitation, even then he skipped the meet to save himself from embarrassment. Apprehensive that politicians from neighbouring states might ask him about his daughter who is involved in a scam he decided against attending the meet. There are so many scams involving his family and party leaders and this is obstructing Telangana’s development. Instead of resolving the issues with the Centre he is resorting to backbiting against the Prime Minister,” said Subhash.
