The month-long budget session in Bihar is likely to be stormy over the deteriorating law and order situation. The budget session began on Monday with the governor’s address to the joint session of both the Houses.

The newly-appointed governor, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, while addressing a joint session highlighted the government’s developmental work. The governor talked in detail about various government projects including the introduction of caste census work here at the newly built Central hall of the state legislature.

Earlier, the speaker of Bihar Legislative assembly Awadh Bihari Chaudhary in his brief speech urged the members to maintain discipline and highlight the public interest issues during the month-long session.

Soon after the governor’s address, the state finance minister Bijay Kumar Chaudhary presented the Bihar Economic Survey in the House.

Bihar’s annual  budget for 2023-24 would be tabled on Tuesday at both the Houses of the state legislature. The upcoming budget is likely to be a welfare budget for the benefits of each section of the society, said an official.

This would be the first budget after the breakup of the NDA. This would be presented by the seven party coalition led by CM Nitish Kumar. The debate on the governor’s address would commence after the presentation of the state budget.

The budget session will continue till April 5 and a total of 22 sittings are scheduled.

The budget session is likely to be stormy as the opposition BJP geared up to corner the CM Nitish Kumar  led government over deteriorating law and order situation, hooch tragedy in Saran, black marketing of fertilisers and several other issues facing the state.

On the other hand, CPI-ML today held a meeting of its legislature party in which it was decided to corner BJP on Hindenburg report, on the price rise and unemployment issues.

Members of the Aam Aadmi Party ( AAP) today gheroad the state BJP headquarters in protest against the arrest of its deputy CM of Delhi Manish Sisodia. AAP supporters had a minor scuffle with the police during the protest.

CPIML general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya also condemned the arrest of the elected deputy CM Sisodia. Bhattacharya appealed to the citizens of Delhi and the Indian people at large to rise in protest against this ‘brazen attempt’ by the BJP to undermine federalism and democracy by misusing central agencies.
