Fearing communal tensions on the 25th anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition on Wednesday, the Centre has asked states to remain vigilant while Ayodhya has been put on high alert, officials said.

Following alerts sent by the Ministry of Home Affairs, security personnel have been deployed at all sensitive locations by the Uttar Pradesh government as both the communities may hold demonstrations and protests on the occasion.

The precautionary measures are important to ensure peace and communal harmony, an official said.

Ayodhya’s neighbouring city of Faizabad too is seeing heavy deployment of security personnel as the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal are planning to celebrate the day as ‘Shaurya Diwas’ (Day of Valour) while Muslims will be observing it ‘Yaum-e-Gham’ (Day of sorrow).

Police along with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed in Ayodhya and Faizabad while regular search operations of vehicles, hotels and dharamshalas are being conducted.
