The Election Commission of India (ECI) is likely to formally announce the schedule for Assembly elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry between March 4 and March 8, reported news agency UNI on Wednesday.

According to the agency, a minimum gap of 25 days will be maintained between the announcement of the election dates and the polling day, with voting expected to be held in the first week of April, most likely between April 3 and April 7.

Earlier today, the poll panel announced the schedule for the Rajya Sabha to fill 37 seats from 10 states. As per the schedule, polling will be held on March 16, 2026, from 9 am to 4 pm, with counting of votes likely to begin the same day at 5:00 pm.

The term of office of 37 members of the Rajya Sabha elected from 10 States is due to expire in April 2026. The election process will commence with the issuance of notifications on 26 February 2026.

The last date for filing nominations is 5th March 2026, followed by scrutiny on 6th March. Candidates can withdraw their nominations by 9th March.
