Army troops deployed for Vaishnodevi landslide rescue ops, soldiers help civilians trapped in flood waters in J&K, Punjab

Indian Army’s helicopters and troops on Tuesday rescued several civilians who were trapped in flash floods in the Samba area of J&K and also in the Pathankot and Gurdaspur districts of Punjab.

Troops of the Rising Star Corps of the Indian Army undertook the operation to save the lives of civilians.

The troops swung into action, rescuing villagers hit by flash floods in Amli and Nud in the Samba district of J&K.

They also rescued marooned people in the Kachle and Sujanpur areas of Pathankot and Makaura Pattan, and Adalatgarh in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab.

Meanwhile, the White Knight Corps of the Army swiftly deployed three columns for rescue and relief operations in and around Katra, which is the base town for the Vaishnodevi pilgrimage.

One Column is assisting in saving lives in Ardhkuwari, where a landslide struck, killing five pilgrims and injuring 14.

One relief column reached the location of the landslide, and one column was assisting in the south of Jaurian town. Efforts are on to save lives, assist the needy, and take the civilians to safe areas. Close coordination with civil agencies is being carried out, said a defence spokesman.
