Two students among six killed in Srinagar boat mishap
At least six people, including two school children, were killed early morning on Tuesday when a boat ferrying them on the river Jhelum capsized in the outskirts of Srinagar.
Indian Army may carry out surgical strikes again if the need arises for such action, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command, Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh said.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the first Inter-Services Paragliding Accuracy Championship held at Bir-Billing in Baijnath of Kangra district, he said Indian Army is capable of meeting any contingency or challenge along the borders.
The three-day competition was organised by Dah Division of Indian Army under the aegis of Army Adventure Wing. Lt Gen Singh said the Army carries out various operations to protect the borders from enemies and surgical strike is also an option.

He said modernisation of Indian Army had improved operational preparedness along the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan to tackle any exigency.
In the competition, Naik Ashish Kumar secured first position in Inter-Services Paragliding Accuracy Championship that concluded today followed by Havildar Kupuswami and Naik Sunil Kumar on second and third position.
Around 40 paragliding pilots of Indian Army, Air Force, Navy, Border Security Force and Assam Rifles participated in the championship.
Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh, who was the chief guest in the concluding ceremony, awarded the winners of the championship for their excellent show of paragliding skills and the Dah Division for the stupendous conduct of such the event.
He appreciated the enthusiasm and healthy competitive spirit of all participants and expressed confidence that the services paragliding pilots would perform equally well in similar national and international events and bring laurels for their respective services.
