An Army soldier and a BSF jawan were killed on Thursday in two separate incidents of unprovoked firing at Indian positions by Pakistani troops from across the Line of Control (LoC).

While the Army soldier was killed when Pakistani troops targeted a forward post in the Machil Sector of Kupwara district in North Kashmir, the BSF jawan, identified as Prosonjit Biswas, lost his life in the Sunderbani sector of Jammu division.

Army spokesman, Colonel Rajesh Kalia, said that the Pakistani troops opened unprovoked fire at around 10.45 am.

The Indian Army retaliated strongly. The soldier was seriously injured and later succumbed.

A spokesman of BSF said that two jawans were injured as Pakistani troops at 3.50 pm targeted a post of the 126 battalion of BSF. The injured jawans were evacuated to a hospital where Biswas succumbed to injuries.

BSF retaliated strongly to the Pakistan firing.
