At least eight people were killed and several others sustained injuries in an explosion at an illegal fireworks manufacturing unit in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Following the explosion, a massive fire erupted at the unlicensed fireworks factory that was being run near Mehmudpura on the Ramol-Gatrad Road in the city.

The injured have been shifted to hospitals for medical treatment where some are in critical condition.

Following the incident, the police registered a case under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Explosives Act in connection with the fireworks factory mishap, with factory operator Mehul Dodia and three or four others named as accused.
PM Modi expresses grief, announces ex gratia
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced ex gratia assistance for the family members of the deceased from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
In a message shared by the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families.

He also announced financial assistance, stating that “An ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs 50,000.”
