The Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls exercise is over in Tamil Nadu and the final voter list has been published.
Briefing the press in Chennai, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tamil Nadu, Archana Patnaik, said on Monday that there are more than 5.67 crore voters in the southern state. Of these, 2.77 crore are males, while 2.89 crore are females. There are about 7,600 third gender people in Tamil Nadu.

As per the final Tamil Nadu electoral roll published today after the SIR exercise, a total of 74,07,207 electors’ names have been deleted from the state voter list as it existed on October 27, 2025.

“As per the direction of the Election Commission of India, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls, 2026 was conducted in the State of Tamil Nadu from 27.10.2025 to 23.02.2026. As on 27.10.2025, there were 6,41,14,587 electors enrolled in the Electoral Roll. After completion of the Enumeration Phase under the Special Intensive Revision 2026, the draft roll was published on 19.12.2025 having a total number of electors as 5,43,76,756.
“Subsequently, during the period for filing of Claims and Objections from 19.12.2025 to 30.01.2026, 27.53 lakh eligible electors were added, and 4.23 lakh ineligible persons electors were deleted. Accordingly, the Final Electoral Roll, 2026 has been published on 23.02.2026 with a list of eligible electors. The final electorate as on 23.02.2026 is 5,67,07,380 (Male: 2,77,38,925; Female: 2,89,60,838; Third Gender: 7,617),” CEO Patnaik said, explaining the exercise and the final numbers.
The senior EC official said the number of voters in the age group of 18–19 years is 12.51 lakh, while electors marked as Persons with Disability total 4.63 lakh. Further, there are about 3.99 lakh senior citizen electors (85+) in Tamil Nadu, as per ECI data.
It may be noted that Tamil Nadu is scheduled to go to elections in March-April this year, along with Puducherrry, Kerala, West Bengal and Assam.
The final electoral roll of Puducherry after the SIR exercise was published on February 14, 2026. The Union Territory has an electorate of 9,44,211.
