The victims were part of a religious procession heading towards Kachla Ghat to collect Ganga water. Devotees were dancing to the beats of a DJ system mounted on the trolley when the vehicle came into contact with an 11,000-volt high-tension wire overhead.
The victims, identified as Sukhbir (30) and Jasveer (16), reportedly received an electric shock and fell under the wheels of the tractor, dying on the spot. The sudden flow of current through the vehicle caused panic, and several other devotees suffered serious burns.
Dwivedi confirmed that the injured were immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment. Some of the injured are said to be in critical condition.
The accident occurred around 9:30 PM when the group of devotees had just started their journey from Kundaliya village. The trolley had barely left the village when the DJ system came into contact with the high-voltage wire, leading to the fatal electrocution.
Police reached the spot promptly after receiving the information and carried out rescue operations. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination, and an investigation into the incident is underway.
