In a suspected case of honour killing in Sutnera village under the Roza police station area, a man allegedly killed his 17-year-old daughter after he caught her talking to her lover on Tuesday morning.

According to police, Noor Mohammad lived with his daughter Ruby, son Qurban, and daughter-in-law Salma. On Tuesday morning, Qurban had gone to work and Salma was washing clothes outside the house when Ruby was alone inside, speaking to someone on the phone when her father entered the house.

It is reported that the father caught the teenager talking to her boyfriend on the phone. He noticed the henna design on her hand. It had a heart and the name of her boyfriend, Armaan, written on it. Seeing this, he became even more enraged. In a fit of rage, he beat her to death.

Hearing her screams, his daughter-in-law arrived and found the girl dead. Seeing her, the accused said, “I have killed my daughter. I will shout this out to everyone.”

After that, the accused fled the scene. Neighbors informed the police, and officers reached the scene shortly afterward. Ruby was found lying dead inside the house. Her body was sent for post-mortem examination, and forensic evidence was collected.

During investigation, it was found that Ruby was having an affair with a young man from the village for about two years. She had written her and the young man’s name on one of her hands with henna. She had also drawn a heart above it. The young man with whom Ruby was having an affair lives in Delhi.

The daughter-in-law said that the daughter was very defiant. She used to speak disrespectfully to her father. She would say, “I am not your child. I will do whatever I want.”

After much insistence, my husband had arranged Ruby’s marriage to Armaan. But his father was not happy with that relationship. Ruby had said she would not marry anyone else. She would only marry Armaan, even if he kills her.

Investigations revealed that Ruby’s marriage had been arranged. Two mobile phones were also found with her. Preliminary investigations showed that she was in contact with several young men. Her father objected to this.

Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi stated that several teams have been deployed to search for the accused, who fled after the incident. “The matter is under investigation. We will ensure strict action once the accused is arrested,” he said.
