An 11-month-old baby boy, Arnav Varma, died on board a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Hyderabad in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to media reports, the boy was travelling with his parents from Doha to Hyderabad. He reportedly developed breathing troubles on the flight.

He was rushed to Apollo Medical Centre at the airport as soon as the flight landed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad where he was declared dead on arrival.

New agency AFP reported that the baby had a US passport, while his father, Anil Varma, holds an Indian passport.

An investigation has been launched in the matter.

“We’re awaiting for investigations to conclude and for official reports from both Qatar Airways and Apollo hospitals on the baby’s death,” AFP quoted Hyderabad airport spokesperson Sangeetha CR as saying.

In a statement regarding the incident, the Qatar Airways said, “We are aware of the very sad news that a young child passed away at Hyderabad International Airport this morning. Our heartfelt sympathy and thoughts are with the affected family.”
