Tom Hardy is not walking away from ‘MobLand’ after all. Media reports confirm that the actor will return for a potential third season of the Paramount+ crime drama.

Hardy had already wrapped his work on Season 2 when things fell apart. He clashed with executive producer Jez Butterworth, along with 101 Studios and other members of the creative team. Production on Season 2 finished in March, and that is when the tension came out into the open.

Reports at the time claimed Hardy sometimes stayed in his trailer for long stretches during filming. That reportedly caused delays and left co-stars Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren waiting on set. Hardy was also said to have given script notes directly to Butterworth, which added to the friction.

There were also creative disagreements. Hardy reportedly did not love the show shifting toward more of an ensemble structure instead of centering fully on his character.

The London meeting that fixed things

Hardy and the production team met in London to work through their issues. Executive producer David Glasser of 101 Studios was part of those talks. Guy Ritchie, who has directed episodes of the show and also serves as an executive producer, reportedly helped smooth things over as well.

That meeting resolved the standoff. Hardy is now expected to continue in the role of Harry Da Souza, the fixer at the center of the show’s crime family drama.

Season 3 status

A third season has not been officially announced by Paramount+ yet. But given how well the show has performed, renewal looks almost certain at this point.

MobLand launched on Paramount+ last spring and quickly became the platform’s second most watched series. That kind of success makes it unlikely Paramount+ walks away from a follow-up season.

Who else is involved

MobLand comes from creator Ronan Bennett and stars Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, and Paddy Considine. The story follows the Harrigan crime family. Brosnan plays Conrad, the family patriarch, while Mirren plays his wife Maeve. Considine plays their son Kevin.

Butterworth wrote all ten episodes of the series alongside Bennett.

Helen Mirren backed Hardy publicly

Throughout the drama, Mirren stood firmly behind Hardy. She spoke about it both on social media and in an interview with Variety at the Taormina Film Festival.

When asked if she would work with Hardy again, her answer was direct. She said different actors simply work differently, and some take longer to get where they need to go. As long as the final result on screen works, she said she stays completely relaxed about the process. She called Hardy a special and remarkable actor and said her support for him is genuine.
