Sathyaraj and Sibiraj on Vijay: There are film stars who enter politics, and then there is Thalapathy Vijay whose political entry feels less like a step and more like a full-blown storm. As the actor pushes forward with his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, everything around him suddenly feels like it is being watched under a microscope. His films, his old interviews, even the way others talk about him, nothing escapes attention.

And now, a new round of controversy has opened up, this time involving veteran actor Sathyaraj, his son Sibiraj, and Vijay’s much-talked-about political journey.

Sathyaraj’s comments bring old film memories back into spotlight

Veteran actor Sathyaraj recently made remarks that immediately stirred discussion. He referred to delays and controversies surrounding Vijay’s upcoming film ‘Jana Nayagan’ and also drew a comparison with an older incident involving Vijay’s 2013 film ‘Thalaivaa’.

According to Sathyaraj, Vijay had earlier sought help during political pressure faced by ‘Thalaivaa’. The film had reportedly run into serious trouble before its release.

The title ‘Time to Lead’ was seen as politically sensitive at that time, and the then AIADMK government led by J Jayalalithaa allegedly refused police protection for theatres, citing security concerns after threats and bomb scares.

Sathyaraj suggested that Vijay’s current political tone appears different from his past actions. He questioned this shift and indirectly pointed out contradictions in how Vijay has approached political situations over the years.

He also commented on Vijay’s way of addressing political leaders. Referring to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Sathyaraj said Vijay had once casually called him “Stalin Uncle.” This, he implied, might not be taken lightly in earlier political eras.

Adding a sharp touch of humour, Sathyaraj even extended the thought experiment further. He said that if someone had referred to Jayalalithaa as “Aunty,” the reaction would have been extremely harsh.

It is also worth noting that Sathyaraj and Vijay share a long professional history. They have worked together in films such as ‘Nanban’, ‘Thalaivaa’, and ‘Mersal’, which makes the current exchange even more widely discussed among fans.

The ‘Thalaivaa’ angle and political pressure claim resurfaces

Sathyaraj’s remarks also brought back attention to the controversies surrounding ‘Thalaivaa’. The 2013 film reportedly faced major political resistance before release.

At that time, the situation escalated to the point where theatres were allegedly denied police protection due to security threats. Reports had mentioned bomb threats directed at cinema halls planning to screen the film.

The controversy became one of the most discussed moments in Vijay’s career, especially because it connected cinema with real-world political pressure.

Sathyaraj’s mention of this episode suggested that Vijay had once navigated political pressure differently compared to his current position as a political leader himself.

Sibiraj takes a softer line

While Sathyaraj’s comments were sharp and politically loaded, his son Sibiraj chose a completely different tone.

Sibiraj posted a message on social media platform X that many users interpreted as a subtle support for Vijay. Without directly naming his father or entering the debate head-on, he stressed the importance of ignoring negativity and avoiding unnecessary conflict.

Interestingly, Sibiraj has earlier spoken about issues affecting the film industry, especially piracy. He had strongly criticised the leak of ‘Jana Nayagan’ content and urged audiences to avoid supporting illegal downloads, calling piracy damaging to cinema.
