This Pongal, Tamil cinema fans are in full-on frenzy! The releases of ‘Parasakthi’ and ‘Jana Nayagan’ have stirred debates, online clashes, and even political chatter. This has the festival into more than just a celebration of harvest.
While Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Parasakthi’ hit theaters on January 10 after a last-minute CBFC nod, Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ is still waiting in the wings for certification. The timing couldn’t be juicier, and fans on social media haven’t held back.

Twitter timelines are buzzing with memes, debates, and passionate arguments from both fanbases.
Sivakarthikeyan speaks out on the controversy
At the heart of the storm, Sivakarthikeyan attended the Pongal festivities in Delhi, hosted by Union Minister L Murugan and graced by PM Modi. Accompanied by co-star Ravi Mohan and partners Aarthi and Kenishaa Francis, the actor addressed the media.
Talking to ANI, Sivakarthikeyan dismissed any claims that ‘Parasakthi’ carries hidden political messages. “No controversy, no controversy. People are understanding it and taking it the right way. What we intended is reaching the people. If they watch the film completely, they will understand. No propaganda,” he said.
He also made sure to send love to Vijay. Asked about the superstar’s political journey, Sivakarthikeyan replied, “I wished him well personally and on social media. His film will be released soon.” On the social media backlash from a few fans, he added, “We don’t have to worry about a few fans talking, and we don’t have to generalise it either. We are always like brothers, and it will remain the same.”
About ‘Parasakthi’
Directed by Sudha Kongara, ‘Parasakthi’ narrates the story of two brothers involved in the 1960s anti-Hindi imposition movement in Tamil Nadu. The film received a UA certificate after the CBFC demanded 25 cuts and modifications.
In a candid chat with The Hollywood Reporter India, Kongara hinted at a deliberate campaign by Vijay fans to discredit the film on social media. “You wonder where it is coming from, and you know where it is coming from,” she said.
The controversy isn’t limited to fan wars. The Tamil Nadu Youth Congress demanded a ban on ‘Parasakthi’, accusing the movie of distorting history and maligning the Indian National Congress (INC) and its leaders.
Meanwhile, ‘Jana Nayagan’, starring Vijay, has its own hurdles. Originally slated for a January 9 release, the film was delayed after the CBFC referred it to the revising committee. Producers have now approached the Supreme Court, seeking clarity on the release.
