Jana Nayagan on BookMyShow: Vijay’s film hits 1 million interests even as release date remain unclear
Vijay’s final film ‘Jana Nayagan’ is already creating blockbuster-level buzz on BookMyShow, with over 1 million fans showing interest. This massive response comes even as the film faces CBFC delays and an ongoing legal battle over its certification.
No trailer panic, no tickets on sale, and still the crowd is lining up. That’s the kind of pull Vijay has. His supposed final film, Jana Nayagan, is already behaving like a blockbuster on BookMyShow even before it officially exists in theatres.
If everything had gone as planned, ‘Jana Nayagan’ would have hit theatres on January 9, just in time for the big Pongal holiday. Fans were ready. Theatres were hopeful. Expectations were sky-high.

But the release plans quietly fell apart. Days before the expected date, the film was not certified by the CBFC, throwing the entire release into confusion.
Here’s the real headline. More than 1 million people have already clicked the “I’m interested” button for Jana Nayagan on BookMyShow.
For context, Vijay’s 2023 blockbuster ‘Leo’ had crossed around 1.1 million interests, and that was with a clear release plan. ‘Jana Nayagan’ is nearly matching that record while stuck in uncertainty.
In simple words: the buzz is real.
CBFC trouble pushes film to revising committee
The trouble started when the filmmakers were informed at the last minute that the film was being sent to a revising committee.
According to the producers, the movie was earlier expected to receive a UA 16+ certificate. That sudden change caused panic and legal action.
On January 6, producer KVN Productions approached the Madras High Court, questioning why the certification process changed so late.
Things escalated fast. The case reached the Supreme Court, where the producers asked for quick relief to secure the censor certificate.
Last week, the Supreme Court dismissed the plea, asking the producers to return to the Madras High Court. The next hearing for relief is scheduled on January 20.
The producers had challenged an interim order that stayed a single-judge direction to grant certification.
