The film is a musical drama fitting for a man whose voice shaped generations in the Northeast. The trailer alone has left fans in tears. One scene has already become a heartbreaking symbol: Zubeen standing by the ocean asking how vast the sea is and whether he could swim across it. For many, it feels like he unknowingly recorded a farewell message long before that tragic day by the water.

Across Assam, homes, tea stalls, markets, everywhere you go, people are talking about the film. There is excitement, yes, but also a deep sadness. It doesn’t feel like a release; it feels like a moment in history.

In a rare gesture, the Assam government has decided that the State’s share of GST from the film will go to the Kalaguru Artist Foundation started by Zubeen himself to help artists in need. Since Assam has no entertainment tax, the movie is already tax-free.

His wife, Garima Saikia Garg, is carrying the weight of both grief and pride. She has not yet been able to watch the film. “This was Zubeen’s dream, his last gift to people,” she said. “We are taking it to the audience the way he wanted.”

Industry experts say ‘Roi Roi Binale’ is on its way to becoming a milestone for Assamese cinema not only because of the name attached but also due to its record-breaking advance bookings. It is cultural history unfolding in real time.

On October 31, cinema halls lit up. Screens are glowing. Music is rising. And somewhere in every heart in Assam, Zubeen Garg is singing again. One last time.
