Award-winning grime artist Ghetts, whose real name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, has admitted to causing the death of a 20-year-old student in a hit-and-run accident in north-east London. The collision took place on 18 October around 11:30 PM on Redbridge Lane, Ilford. Police reports say Ghetts was driving a BMW M5 at over 60mph in a 30mph zone when he struck Yubin Tamang, a Nepali student who was crossing the road.
Yubin, an only child sent to the UK by his parents to pursue his education, suffered severe injuries and passed away two days later in hospital. The court heard details of the young man’s life highlighting the loss felt by his family and community.

The judge warned Ghetts to expect a custodial sentence. But the exact length of the jail term and the driving ban is yet to be determined. They have scheduled the sentencing for 12 February, when they will also address all remaining charges.
Alcohol and dangerous driving
One of the most serious allegations against Ghetts is that he was over the legal alcohol limit at the time of the crash. Police say he had 119 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, raising the charge of causing death by careless driving while intoxicated.
A further dangerous driving charge involves incidents in Worcester Crescent and other roads in Redbridge on the same day. Police emphasise that these incidents were not in isolation and they involved reckless behaviour behind the wheel.
